Messages from the Mayor
Ahhh… Sunshine! I’m writing this on a fine spring day, with sunshine on my face and all of that snow finally starting to melt behind my house! Three of my grandchildren scooped the remnants of what’s left of this crazy winter (#Snowpocalypse!) off of our back patio this afternoon. I think spring has finally sprung! I’ve said this before, but I’m still so thankful for the four seasons we enjoy here in our little slice of heaven, and I hope you do too.
Meanwhile, are you ready for summer!? Are you ready for Slippery Gulch? I hope to see all of you tossing eggs in downtown Tekoa very soon. We have so many local citizens involved with our summer celebration, and I sincerely appreciate all of your hard work. I’ll be there! As we move into spring and summer, I’m looking forward to camping, fishing and the warm summer air. I have a feeling that our local farming families will be very busy with all of the wet earth this year!
Issues you need to be aware of:
The airport fuel card reader is outdated, and the costs to replace it are astronomical. The council is working hard to provide a solution.
We’re still working on the website changes to accept your water/sewer/garbage payment online with your debit or credit card. There will be a “Link” on our city website soon. Watch for it! (I promise.. I’ll try it out myself!)
Chip sealing streets: We are working with the county to chip seal several streets in Tekoa this summer. More good news: We’re going to purchase some equipment to do this work ourselves, which is … AWESOME! When the guys have a day or two to chip seal a street, they’ll just grab the equipment and start rolling!
The Tekoa Community Center is on track to be ready for use this summer. I’ve appointed a committee to develop a fee schedule for the finished building. It’s very nice, and I’m excited that we will finally have this available for the community!
The council is still engaged with the crumbling building downtown. We’re currently trying to get an asbestos assessment on the building, so we can determine what our next steps will be.
Do you feel you can contribute to the City of Tekoa? Have you ever considered serving on your local city council? There is still an open position on Tekoa’s city council, and if you’re interested, all you need to do is submit a letter to City Hall. Just think… You can be directly involved in making positive decisions for Tekoa! You must reside within the City of Tekoa, and you must want to give your time and effort to a greater cause. If this is something that interests you, please do submit your letter to City Hall. I look forward to meeting you, Future Councilperson!
As we progress into summer, I’m reminded of the difficulties we had with plowing snow off the roads with all of the parked vehicles over the last few months. I’m going to ask the council to consider an ordinance that will allow us to plow roads efficiently and effectively in 2020. If you have input or suggestions… please drop me a line! (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Over the last few months, several citizens volunteered to help with the snow removal. I want to personally thank each of you for your willingness to give your time and effort to make our sidewalks and streets safer for our citizens (including our children!). Thank you!
Last but not least… I’m available. You can call me at home at (509) 284-2847, or (509) 428-9447 is my cell number. You can also email me @ email@example.com. If you have a question or concern about any city operation, my request is this: Please call Tekoa City Hall first at (509) 284-3861. If your concern reaches beyond that, my door is always open!
